Crash & Burn

Ok, get this. On Mythbusters last night, Jamie (is that spelled right??) and Adam were testing to see if everytime a car was driven off a cliff, it exploded. Sounds cool and totally probable right? Wrong.

You see, the explosion could be caused pretty much only by the gas tank, which in modern cars, is placed in a location where it is protected so the mythical explosion doesn't happen. Sad. So in testing, all they got was crunched cars (which are still pretty cool, but not as awesome as random explosions).

Then, Jamie and Adam strapped a gas tank to the fron of the car and ran it off a cliff. The result: a wickedly cool fireball and a charred, mangled car, but no explosions. At the end of the show, they rigged yet another car with explosives, pushed it off a cliff and detonated the explosives when it hit the ground, which is totally cheating, but still really cool.

Cheese Cannonballs

I saw this thing on Mythbusters the other day, where Kari, Grant and Tori were testing to see if cheese is a decent substitite for cannonballs. The story behind it is that in the 1800's, two South American countries navy's were fighting, and one side ran out of cannonballs. The ship's resourceful capitan ordered for cheese to be used as a substitute, and the myth says it actually worked! When it was tested, a special kind of hard, spanish cheese whose name I can't recall was actually able to peirce through a replica of a ship sail from that era. Wow. Before you know it, nuclear wars will be replaced with salami. "Watch out for the sausage bomb!!! AGGGGGG!!"
